Actually I think I gave him pretty detailed instructions on how he can do that.  He said he wanted to view over the air HD channels.  They can be accessed through several different products.  The rest can be accessed through his cable box but not in HD.

He said he wanted over the air, AND digital cable from his box, dude. OTA is built-in and no problems at all.

    Re: Digital Cable TV Tuner/Cablecard??

I have frequent conversations with a former employee, who now works for Charter Communications (The Cable Company in our area), He is very high up. He insists that qam is going away. he says everything will be encypted. I would think that they would loose alot of subscribers, but maybe not...

Ack, can't be simple, right? I might just nix the tuner card for now until I can figure out exactly what I am going to do and how it's going to work.

Wait, QAM is going away or Clear-QAM is going away? Besides the "clear QAM" channels, digital cable channels already ARE encrypted.

And for a cable company high-up to claim that Clear-QAM is going away seems a bit odd, as we're talking about basically local channels that I thought the law required cable companies to offer unencrypted.

Well, sort of....The FCC statement says, that cable companies have to provide all channels that could be gotten via OTA for free on the basic teir sub, there is nothing showing digital or analong channels, it's not 100% clear. I did read it and in a nutshell that is what it says.

If the cable compaies wanted to stick it to you they could give you local HD channels over QAM but, down convert them to 480i/p and there is nothing you can do or say it about it....

I have analog cable and QAM HD channels coming in on my VMC box from Comcrap. They moved one of the channels over to digital (there is a message on the channel. saying "this channel has been moved to digital cable"), but, on my seach on the HDhomerun, it now is on clear QAM (not a channel I watch anyway)
