DVD Library Hack --> OML (fixes various issues)

Ok, just wondering if people are making the jump from the DVD Library Hack to OML. It probably depends on your use and setup. Here's my setup:
    • DVDs are ripped to .mpg format. Its easy/quick to do (DVDShrink/VideoRedo) and I am not worried about space.
    • I watch only via DMA 2100 extenders. Not on the PC itself.
Here are the advantages (for me) of moving to OML as I see it:
    • I no longer need a special .wvx file for each ripped DVD.
    • It supports DVR-MS so I can do FF/RR. MPG does not let me use FF/RR.
    • DVR-MS do not appear under recorded TV (which they would if I added to scanned folders with appropriate metadata -- the only other way I can get DVR-MS to appear under DVD Library hack).
    • I can hear all my audio on ALL movies and its in AC3-5.1 :-)  (The DMA 2100 down-mixes MPG 5.1 to stereo. It seems there is a related bug that makes sound unavailable in about 1 of 5 movies. Wrapping the same MPG in DVR-MS fixes this)!
    • OML is fairly fast. DVD library gets slow after 100+ DVDs.
    • No issues with DVD metadata (I have had various issues with DVD metadata caches being wrong or not picking up (I use MyMovies to grab the data)).
    • OML has better filtering features (by genre etc).
    • OML has better customization features (more DVDs per line, less, use orginal artwork, etc). It can look almost the same as DVD Library now.
    • OML is getting better quickly. DVD Library -- well, its not going anywhere.
    • OML is still beta, so DVD Library has the advantage here. However, I think the recent beta seems to be pretty stable.
So for me its bye bye DVD Library and hello OML. It was fun while it lasted.

Anyone else making the switch? Impressions?  Anyone not? Why?

    Cheers, Tony.

I have not tried OML yet but plan to do so this holiday weekend. I just got an HP MediaSmart TV so have been anxious to get to streaming. OML looks like a great solution and would rather use that than have to create a separate file for each DVD I have ripped.

Re: DVD Library Hack --> OML (fixes various issues)

I'm starting to use OML more, and Video Browser less.  I didn't use the DVD Library hack.  Since I use MyMovies to get metadata and it by default just points to a folder (and plays the files in it), the only thing I need in OML to do is play movies the same way.

Right now I need OML to play a DVR-MS file in a folder without pointing to the specific file.  I also need OML to stop transcoding MP4 files because my extender can play them natively.  OML forces Transcode360 to transcode MP4 video's, and then I get a failure to transcode error.  Using Video Browser, I can play my Nero Recode2 MP4 video perfectly on the extender.

I think two issues will be fixed soon, and once they are, OML will be the perfect video player (for me).

Hey Dravor - when are you going to implement Vader's code for the transcode into OML?

Translucent is actually currently working on building out our own transcoder module.  It's just taking a bit more time since he is building more functionality into it.  I'd expect to see this within the next few weeks, maybe sooner.  This will then eliminate the need to have an external transcoder.dll, or Transcode360 installed.

He's also looking into the ability to do things like change languages, subtitiles, that would normally be changed in the DVD menu, and allow you to change them via a transcoding menu.  It's no real DVD Menu, but does help somwhat with functionality.

Out of curiosity what is OML.  It does not sound familiar and I googled it multiple ways and don't seem to find anything relating to DVDs.

Very interesting, especially because it supports FF/RR fonctions.

I'll move to OMLwhen they support audio track selection.

Re: DVD Library Hack --> OML (fixes various issues)

Translucent did contact me about contributing to the project, but for some reason my responses don't seem to be getting back to him. In any case, I don't think what I've done would help OML in any way. If it would I would be happy to contribute. The problem is that my dll exploits a very specific interface that allows a single file to be substituted for a DVD folder. The user interface is entirely Microsoft's. It's been there the whole time, but only activated by dll's such as mine.

Will OML work on a PC with TV Pack 2008 installed?
