Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

So I want to verify something here..

I use MCE 2005 with two Uverse STBs which go to sleep after 8 hours of inactivity.  I want to send OK commands to them from outside MCE every few hours to keep them awake.

Is is possible with the original or new driver, for both Media Center and MCEIRPlay to access the blasters?  Or is it one or the other?  Is the ability to control other components through the blasters only for people who are not already using one to run a STB?

Hey pals... I bought my MCE Remote + Receiver used and didn't get any blasters with it. Can I build one myself? I have understood that it consists of IR transmitter LED and 3.5mm mono jack?

Yep, I was right. That's the way it works :)

Is that all there is to it?  Don't you even need a current limiting resistor?

Ian, I set up dual manual recordings for 1 minute 3 times a day 8 hours apart. This has worked for me for uverse.

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

I've been trying to replace the eHome IR receiver driver with the MCE Infrared Remote Control, but Vista 64 won't let me. Even using the "have disk" method just lets me direct it to the folder with the mceir.sys file, and only results in Vista saying that the best driver is already installed. I just want to get my IR blasters to power on and off and adjust the volume on my Onkyo receiver and Hitachi tv. Help!

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Ask the Vista forum, this is MCE2005.

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

The manual recordings are working for me as well to keep the STBs awake, and I have a scheduled task set to delete them right after they record. However they stay in the recorded TV list for a day or two, and fill up the recently recorded section of the My TV.  It also irritates everyone else in my family when they are watching and it wants to change channels for the manual recording.

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Posted it in the Vista forum but no response. Seems like the experts are here, since this is thread where the new drivers were created. Anyone able to help?

Does that me someone is on it?

Note- I'm back to Vista 32, for other reasons. I will give the new driver a shot and report back.

I am also on vista 64 and this is not working.  I have the source and was thinking about compiling on my 64 box to see if it would help.  has anyone else tried this?

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

Again, this thread is for MCE2005, not for Vista 32 or 64.

When I upgraded to Vista, I had a real headache trying to get the replacement driver to work with Vista and HIP.  I gave up in the end and switched to using IRSS from the Mediaportal Team.

My advice would be to do the same - give up and switch to IRSS, you don't need a replacement driver, it just works.  Although I don't know if it "just works" under Vista64

Re: Making MCE IR blaster universal

hello guys you've done excellent work though i have a lot of trouble making it work...

i managed to copy an ir command from my hifi remote and my tv remote but when i use my pc to send these commands both of them simply dont react...

anyway i was trying to make this work when i had an idea.

my samsung tv has a remote that can control 5 devices. so i thought that
instead of controling my tv using my microsoft mce v2 remote wich will require to have the pc turned on all the time, i should control mce from my tv remote control.

so i can control my tv at any time and when mce is turned on ill be able to control mce too.

the problem is that i tried to do this but both hip and girder doesnt recognize my samsung remote.
i used my philips hifi remote and worked just fine.

is there a way, a plug in or something to make a samsung remote send signal to microsoft mce ir receiver and hip or girder recognize it?

what you did is really good but for some users the opposite thing maybe way better.

i really want to thank you in advance and im waiting for an answear.
keep up the good work guys
