I'm having a problem getting WebGuide to work from an external browser.
Recently, I set WebGuide up on my Vista MCE Premium system and had no
problem accessing it locally by typing my external IP and the port I had forwarded on my router. When I attempted to access it from work
(Windows XP), however, it didn't work. The first attempt I was able
to get to the login screen but couldn't log in. So I thought I had
entered the incorrect password. I went home and verified, then went to
work the next day and tried again. This time IE7 timed out trying to
connect (and all other sites were fine). So I went home and checked a
few things:
Router (Linksys WRTP54G) had ports 5440 / 5441 forwared for Web/Video.
Webguide Network tab had Network configuration set to 5440 (Web) and 5441 (Video)
'Create Windows Firewall Exceptions' was checked
Verified external IP address with
http://whatismyip.com/I typed:
http://<external IP>:5440
in
the address bar of Firefox (local PC) and hit return. It gave me a
page that says 'Unable to connect'. I thought maybe it was a firewall
problem so I turned off Windows firewall, but it was still unable to
connect. To pull up my router page, I typed my internal IP of
192.168.15.100 (which is what I typically entered). Instead of the
Linksys login screen, I got the Webguide login screen. So I ran
IPconfig in DOS and found that my IP address was listed as
192.168.15.100 and my default gateway was listed as 192.168.15.1. I
tried 192.168.15.1 in the Firefox address bar and it got me to the router login screen. After
logging in to the router, I noticed my Local IP was listed as 192.168.15.1 and my
Start IP was listed as 192.168.15.100. Is that right?
Anyway,
I tried forwarding different ports (found under Applications & Gaming / Port Range Forwarding), checking Windows firewall to make
sure it was allowing those ports to go through, and everything seems to
be ok.
Any idea why I can't connect? I should be able to type:
http://<external IP>:port
to
test at home, right? To make sure an issue with the external IP wasn't the issue, I
signed up for DYNDNS so it would continue to forward, even if the IP
changed (although, because I've checked my external IP numerous times
over the past three months and it's always the same, leading me to
believe it's static and DYNDNS is pointless).
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
