RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

Thanks for the clarification!  Dayum, this looks like a tough one to nail down.  Unfortunately, there's not much I can do to help you out from a development standpoint, but I'd gladly help you pound on this in different configurations.

Very happy convert to SageTV! Finally, watching ESPN-HD in real HD on my HTPC without having to deal with the CableCARD fiasco!

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

    hi tim:

I think you fixed it! with -t50, I'm tuning 100% so far. No more errors. cross my fingers. it seems to turn the channel quicker too. works while streaming via firewire to sagetv

    thanks!

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

foolio - I haven't tried Sagetv - are you able to pause the stream/record from the firewire? Also, is the viewing/recording done natively in Sagetv or does it point to third party apps?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Thank foolio, I will change the default to use -t50 and update firewire.zip tonight.

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

I have updated the firewire.zip attachment to include the latest channel.exe. That fixes some issues if you are using the command line while streaming over firewire as well. Thanks foolio for finding them ( it defaults to 50 timing).

I haven't changed the Media Center integrated dll and exe yet, since you probably are not streaming over firewire.

In terms of Media center and streaming, I now have a test app that streams audio/video over firewire into dvr-ms files, that I can play with media player. I haven't tried playing with media center yet, nor is the recording integrated with media center. I want to start the firewire streaming on demand from media center when it starts its own recording.

HD recorded dvr-ms files are large I have seen 7.5G per hour, SD is about 1.5G per hour.

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

    hi tim:

last request for us sagetv folks =)

anyway you can make the channel.exe program silent/invisible? when we call it to change the channel via sgraphrecorder, the command prompt dos box pops up and fills the screen with the output.

thanks for your efforts with this project - It's working great for me now.

I did have one BSOD which crashed and rebooted my system. I changed to your new inf and hope that is solved.

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

In trying to edit the mstape.sys from sp2 I am not seeing the correct offset information.
I downloaded the stand alone SP2 from M$ website (file WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe). decompressed it and grabbed mstape.sy_ renamed it to mstapeo.sys opened it with a hex editor (Hex Workshop)went to offset 130 looking for "04 BC 01 00" but didn't find anything which looks close. If you couldn't tell, hex editing is completely foreign to me.

I am running XPMC SP2 (searched for mstape.sys to no avail, which is why I downloaded stand alone SP2)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Fleck

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

Fleck, If you go on a sp2 machine to

c:\windows\driver cache\i386 and look in sp2.cab you should see mstape.sys and can copy out. If oyu look at the version information (right click in explorer) you should see 5.3.2600.2180.

I just re-read your post, renaming mstape.sy_ wll not work, the file is compressed. You need to do

    expand mstape.sy_ mstape.sys

or copy it out of the sp2.cab file, since the cab is compressed mstape.sys is not.

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

foolio, in firewire.zip there is now a channelw.exe as well as channel.exe. The only difference is channelw.exe is a windows program so doesn't need a cmd window. You can't see any output so debug, etc using channel.exe

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

For some reason after following the MCE setup procedures (1. regsvr32 TunerTracker.dll & 2. Reboot 3. MyTray.exe, selecting the tuners) MCE won't seem to change the channels. Am I missing something? It seems to work perfect changing channels using channel.exe from the cmd prompt.

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

Look in %temp%\tuner.txt it logs all the events that tunertracker.dll is using and its decisions on tuners and channels. Are you seeing events and does the channels selected make sense?

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

Thank you, worked like a charm. I pasted the output from a successful channel change below.
My next issue... is that when I load mytray.exe, the dropdown menu's for tuner 1 and tuner 2 are empty. Any advice?

    Thanks again,

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

Fleck, You just found a bug . I filter the device list according to a list of deivces 6200, 6208 and 6412. But the code for populating the comboboxs only checks for the 6200, which happens to be the STB I use

It will take a couple of days to fix, I have been changing mytray.exe to pick up other info such as the Media Name, time the recording started, etc. as the start of the changes for recording via firewire.
