Huh? [:^)] Upgrade CPU on Z560

HI there, does anybody know what do I need to do in order to upgrade processor on my Z560? I would like to install E6600 Core 2 Duo, instead of PentiumD. Thank you in advance,

    Re: Upgrade CPU on Z560

that Z560 comes with a Pentium D 945 which is LGA775....and according to intel i believe the Core2 Duo chips are also LGA775...so you should be able to just put one in, yes?

You are right about "shuold be able" part. Unfortunatly, when I installed new CPU, I don't get anything on screen, and my Z560 does not respond to anything, so I can't even run BIOS settings.
    Any more ideas??? Please???

    i've got a couple thoughts:
    1. have you tried resetting the CMOS? Usually you just switch a jumper to & from
    2. What's the exact make/model of the mobo?

No, I did not do any CMOS resets (honestly, since I don't have a specs for MOBO, I don't know it's location). Mobo installed on Z560 is Asus P5LP-LR (HP name is Malachite2-UL8E)

    Re: Upgrade CPU on Z560

if u take a picture of the inside, we can help you find it. i've had to do that before when upgrading CPU's. Hopefully it's that simple. If you look around shouldn't be too hard, it's 3 pins and probably has 2 pins covered, and almost always will say CMOS RESET near it.

That's my best guess since i couldn't find any info on the board from google.

    Re: Upgrade CPU on Z560

Did you ever find a solution to upgrading you OEM CPU to a Core Duo? I want to do the same and just started looking off any limitations that may exist. HP tech support claims that this Upgrade is not possible because the mobo in the Z560 is HP propriety. Any insight to the upgrade effort would be really appreciated.

    Re: Upgrade CPU on Z560

You guys will really have to check to see if the BIOS supports that CPU, also see if you can flash the BIOS to the latest version, that may help.

    Re: Upgrade CPU on Z560

I have a Z560 and upgraded the entire PC with a new CPU, new video card, new hard drive, new remote control, new Bluray drive and switched to Vista. It is a great machine and runs 24/7. It does a better job playing Bluray than des my new Samsung Bluray player. I got all my ideas from a thread on avsforum.com, go and search for threads by bigworm. To answer your question I did a lot of research including purchising CPUs that didn't work and the fastest CPU I could get to work correctly is what I have now. I have a 3.6GHz, 960 and it's a SL9K7. It works well and it was the only chip that did work. Good luck.
