z555 no keyboard / stand by shuts down unit

Has anyone ever run into either of these problems?  If so what did you do to fix the problem?

    1)  z555 keyboard component died.  Keyboard still works and has good battries in it.  Pressing the connnect button on the z555 does nothing.  (Doesn't light up green when pressing the connect button on the z555 itself.

    2)  Putting the unit in S3 sleep mode actually shuts down the machine, the power button goes off instead of lighting up orange/red color.  The z555 will wake up again when it suppost to but since it has to now do a complete reboot, it usually locks up the z555

    3) Pressing and holding the power button won't turn off the z555 anymore.  It restarts the z555.  Only way to get it to turn off once it's locked up is to pull the power cord.

All three of these things started happening at the same time?

Could this be a software issue, or bad motherboard?  Hoping it's not a bad mb, no idea how to track a new one of those down.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

Any ideas on what's wrong?  I've installed the sleeper application, and the MCE shutdown tool, neither have helped correct the issue.

I know this sounds drastic, but when i started experiencing standby issues I restored the machine using system restore WAYYYY back to well before my problems. Power managment worked like advertised.  Plus you get to keep your recorded shows.

You can also try using the HP system restore and choose to keep your data. If those don't work, you have hardware issues.

My z556 just got a few of those symptoms.  The keyboard receiver is gone.  No signs of life at all.  I'm really not looking forward to cracking it open.  I'm assuming that hardware is very integrated and I'll have to get another RF keyboard as a replacement.  That would suck because I really like that little thing.  But at the same time that PC has been losing registry entries so I may try a rebuild first.  But I doubt it's software related.

The power thing is different.  Don't think you have a problem there.  The power button must be set to "standby" the system.  If you push and hold for 5 sec it will shut off, but mine sleeps quicker than 5 secs so I end up going to standby and then getting the shutdown.  You can change that setting in the screensaver tab of video properties, then hit the power button, advanced tab and choose what you want it to do when you hit the power button.

There had to be an update that disabled the wireless keyboard.  About two months ago it stopped responding completely. It should be noted I am running Vista.  Anyone contact HP?

If it helps I replaced my keyboard with a BTC 9019URF Wireless Multimedia USB Keyboard I got off of ebay. I like it.

I'm XP and have updates turned off.  I'm thinking it's just a short lifespan.

That kbd looks like a decent replacement.  Thanks for the tip

UPDATE!  Never bought the USB wireless kbd setup yet and my power supply completely crapped out last week.  I got the new one tonight and with the fresh PS, my kbd receiver came back to life!!!  So if your kbd has died, it's related to the power that the daughter board is getting and may be the beginning of the end of your PS.
