    Resampling on the fly?

Is anyone aware of software that will "resample" video on the fly? What would be great, if it's not a ridiculous request, is a media center plugin, similar to Orb, that would downsample video files as they were streamed from a source. I've got a bunch of HD .mkv files that when played on a standard def tv, through an extender, play audio but no video (for obvious reasons). My HD .WMV files seem to scale fine though. I tried re-encoding a .mkv to .wmv and on top of taking 10 hours to process, the audio was all jacked up. (popping and other distortion) Does anything like this exist already? My brother is a .net code monkey so it might be an interesting project to undertake. I know that Orb downsamples the source file as it's streamed to the Wii... the .mkv format might prove problematic though.

On a side note, some of my .mkv files seem possessed. One day they'll be fine, the next they're showing subtitles. I'm playing them from within Media Center, enabled with the CCCP Codec pack, which usually works great. Is there any way to turn this off? Maybe through Media Player settings?
